본 과정은 세계어로서의 영어(World Englishes)라는 새로운 개념과 철학을 바탕으로 한 세상 속의 다양한 영어를 인지하고 이해하며 미국식, 영국식 영어의 틀에서 벗어나 당당한 영어의 종류의 하나로 영어의 다양성을 학습하는 과정이다. 더 이상 영어는 미국과 영국의 언어가 아니라 세계 모든 사람이 사용하는 언어로, 다양한 영어를 학습해야 한다. 이에 본 과정에서 학생들은 다양한 영어의 존재를 직접 경험하고 학습할 수 있도록 OTT 동영상을 활용해 생동감 넘치는 영어의 세계를 경험한다.

World Englishes refers to different forms and
varieties of English used in different parts of the world. The globalization of English and culture contact lead to the emergence of new linguistic forms of English. They are known as world Englishes, English as a lingua franca, or English as an international language. English varieties spoken by both native and non-native speakers of English should be accepted as part of World Englishes. Exploring different accents, different sociolinguistic backgrounds, and other grammatical aspects of World Englishes, the course aims at raising awareness of the importance of world Englishes both critical consciousness and practical skills in World Englishes by recognizing and accepting the varieties of English around the globe.
