영문학 독해를 통해 문학작품과 당대 사회가 어떻게 밀접히 연관되어 있는가의 문제를 탐구하는 것이 목적이다. 우선 영미문학을 개요하기 위해 다양한 장르의 글(시, 소설, 희곡, 산문 등)을 읽고, 또한 19세기 말에 새로운 장르로 부상한 영화를 접하면서 활자언어에 기초한 의사소통방식과 영상언어에 기초한 의사소통방식의 차이를 규명한다.

Through comprehensive reading of British and American literature, this course aims to study how literature is related to society. Students will read diverse genres of writing (i.e., poetry, novel, drama, prose etc) during the entire semester. They will also learn about a new genre called film that emerged in the late nineteenth century, so that they can articulate the difference between "visual literacy" and "print literacy."
